Lorne Stewart Engineering wins M&E contract for High Energy Proton Beam Therapy Facility in Northumberland

This 3-storey Proton Beam Therapy Facility in Bedlington Northumberland – one of the first of its kind in the UK – will incorporate new cancer care treatment, MRI and CT scanning facilities, together with cancer treatment via Lineac and Proton Vaults.

This new treatment – which came to prominence when the parents of five-year-old Aysha King took him to Prague for the therapy – uses a high energy beam of proton instead of high energy X-rays, to deliver radiotherapy and is particularly effective for treating cancers in the head and the spine.

Having been awarded the full M&E services contract earlier this year, Lorne Stewart Engineering North East Region are currently working closely with Interserve Construction and Desco throughout the design and installation process, whilst ensuring a thorough understanding of project requirements to successfully deliver and exceed client expectations over the 31 week programme.

Tom McLaughlin, Managing Director of Lorne Stewart Engineering in Wynyard commented:

Proton beam therapy is the way forward for cancer patients and this new facility will be a hub of excellence for advanced cancer treatment in the North of England and Scotland. We are delighted to be supporting Interserve Construction & Proton Partners International in helping to creating this new state-of-the-art cancer treatment centre in Northumberland.”
